  3. Split. It lies along the eastern shore of the
  4. Adriatic sea and includes a number of
  5. islands. The interior is mountainous.
  6. Important products are wine, olives, and
  7. fish. Notable towns in addition to the
  8. capital are Zadar, Sibenik, and Dubrovnik.
  9. history Dalmatia became Austrian 1815 and by
  10. the treaty of Rapallo 1920 became part of the
  11. kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes
  12. (Yugoslavia from 1931), except for the town
  13. of Zadar (Zara) and the island of Lastovo
  14. (Lagosta), which, with neighbouring islets,
  15. were given to Italy until transferred to
  16. Yugoslavia 1947. Dalmatia was made a region
  17. of Croatia 1949.
